Assist Step Motor Replacement (B3L)

Removal Procedure

  1. Extend the assist steps in the vehicle personal optimization chapter in the owners manual.
  1. Scroll to Deploy Running Boards on the navigation screen.
  2. Put the assist steps in the extended position.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

  1. Retainer (1) » Disengage

  1. Retainer (1) » Disengage
  2. Assist Step Shield Bolt (2) » Remove [2x]

  1. Assist Step Shield (1) » Remove

  1. Electrical Connector (2) » Disconnect
  2. Assist Step Rod Bolt (1) @ Assist Step Motor (3) » Remove

  1. Electrical Connector (1) » Disconnect
  2. Retainer (2) » Disengage [2x]
  3. Wiring Harness Retainer Bolt (3) » Remove [2x]

  1. Assist Step Shield Bolt (1) » Remove [2x]
  2. Assist Step Shield (2) » Remove
  3. Support the assist step using a suitable jack.

  1. Assist Step Bolt (1) » Remove [3x]
  2. Assist Step Bracket Bolt (2) » Remove [2x]

  1. Using mechanics wire, support the assist step rod (1).
  2. Reposition the assist step motor (2) to disengage the assist step rod (1) from the assist step motor (2).

  1. Remove the assist step motor assembly (2) ensuring the assist step anchor plate (1) does not move along the track. Installation Procedure

  2. Position the assist step motor assembly (2) to the assist step anchor plate (1).

  3. Position the assist step motor (2) and install the assist step rod (1) to the assist step motor (2).

  4. Assist Step Bolt (1) » Loosely install [3x]

  1. Assist Step Bracket Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

  2. Assist Step Bolt (1) » Tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

  3. Remove the assist step support.

  4. Electrical Connector (2) » Connect

  5. Assist Step Rod Bolt (1) @ Assist Step Motor (3) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

  6. Assist Step Shield (2) » Install

  7. Assist Step Shield Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

  8. Electrical Connector (1) » Connect

  9. Retainer (2) » Engage [2x]

  10. Wiring Harness Retainer Bolt (3) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

  11. Assist Step Shield (1) » Install

  12. Retainer (1) » Engage

  13. Assist Step Shield Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

  14. Retainer (1) » Engage

  15. Lower the vehicle.
