Removal Procedure

1. Remove the left front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

2. { If equipped } Front Tire Front Air Deflector Bolt (1) » Remove

3. Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) » Remove [3x]

5. Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (2) » Remove

8. Front Wheelhouse Liner (1) » Remove

Caution

With wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, secure the steering wheel utilizing steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking of the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the following components: The steering column The intermediate shaft(s) The steering gear After disconnecting these components, do not rotate the steering wheel or move the front tires and wheels. Failure to follow this procedure may cause the SIR coil assembly to become un-centered and cause possible damage to the SIR coil. If you think the SIR coil has became un-centered, refer to your specific SIR coil’s centering procedure to re-center SIR Coil.

9. Secure the steering wheel so it will not turn when the upper intermediate steering shaft and intermediate steering shaft are disconnected.

10. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) » Remove

11. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @ Intermediate Steering Shaft » Separate

12. Remove the 3 steering column seal nuts (1).

13. Intermediate Steering Shaft Boot (1) » Remove Installation Procedure

14. Intermediate Steering Shaft Boot (1) » Install

Caution

2. Install and tighten the 3 steering column seal nuts (1). Fastener Specifications

3. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @ Intermediate Steering Shaft » Install

4. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps: 4.1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth. 4.2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive. 4.3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 4.4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.

5. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

6. Remove the device used to prevent steering column rotation.

7. Front Wheelhouse Liner (1) » Install

8. Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

9. Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

10. Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (2) » Install
