Engine Controls and Fuel - 3.0L LM2 Diesel | Diagnostic Information and Procedures | Document ID: 5479407 DTC P0016 Diagnostic Instructions Perform the Diagnostic System Check prior to using this diagnostic procedure: Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Review the description of Strategy Based Diagnosis: Strategy Based Diagnosis An overview of each diagnostic category can be found here: Diagnostic Procedure Instructions DTC Descriptor DTC P0016 Crankshaft Position Sensor and Intake/Single Camshaft Position Sensor Correlation Circuit/System Description The ECM compares the signals of the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor to detect if the signals are out of sync. Conditions for Running the DTC DTC P0335, P0336, P0340, P0341, P0651 = Not set Engine = Cranking or running. Crankshaft Position Sensor & Camshaft Position Sensor = Synchronized Time since diagnostic ran last = Less than 1.0 s Frequency the DTC runs = Continuously — After the running conditions are met Conditions for Setting the DTC The camshaft position is less than -8.1° in one direction or greater than 10.1° in the other direction (measured in degrees of the crankshaft). Actions Taken When the DTC Sets DTCs listed in the DTC Descriptor category = Type B DTC Conditions for Clearing the DTC DTCs listed in the DTC Descriptor category = Type B DTC Reference Information DTC Type Reference Powertrain Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Type Definitions Scan Tool Reference Control Module References Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode
  2. Verify DTC P0335, P0336, P0340, P0341, P0651 is not set. ⇒ If any of the DTCs are set Refer to: Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle ⇓ If none of the DTCs are set
  3. Engine » Idling — At normal operating temperature
  4. Verify DTC P0016 is not set. ⇒ If the DTC is set 4.1. Ignition/Vehicle » Off 4.2. Verify the following conditions do not exist: B23 Camshaft Position Sensor — Incorrect installation B26 Crankshaft Position Sensor — Incorrect installation Reluctor Ring — Misaligned @ Crankshaft Timing Belt or Timing Chain — Excessive play Timing Belt Tensioner or Timing Chain Tensioner — Incorrect installation ⇒ If a condition exists » Repair or replace as necessary ⇒ If none of the conditions exists » Refer to step 2. ⇓ If the DTC is not set
  5. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data. Verify the DTC does not set. ⇒ If the DTC sets One of the above conditions still exist. ⇓ If the DTC is not set
  6. All OK. Repair Instructions Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the repair: Diagnostic Repair Verification Camshaft Position Sensor Exciter Wheel Replacement Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement Exhaust Camshaft Replacement Intake Camshaft Replacement
