1. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
2. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

3. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Remove [4x]
4. Underbody Skid Shield (2) » Remove

5. Place match marks on the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (1) and the steering linkage inner tie rod.

Caution

Do not attempt to disconnect a steering linkage joint by driving a wedge between the joint and the attached part. Seal damage may result which will cause premature failure of the joint.

8. Using CH-43631 Ball Joint Separator (1), remove the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.

11. Steering Gear Boot Outer Clamp (1) » Remove

12. Steering Gear Boot Clamp (1) » Remove and DISCARD

Caution

Holding the steering gear rack bar with anything other than a non-serrated adjustable wrench will cause damage to the steering gear

14. Cover the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear bar (2) with a clean shop towel.
15. Hold the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear bar (2) with a non-serrated adjustable wrench.
16. Using a universal inner tie rod wrench, loosen the steering linkage inner tie rod (1).

17. Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod (1) » Remove Installation Procedure

18. Transfer the match marks from the old steering linkage inner tie rod to the new steering linkage inner tie rod.

19. Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod (1) » Install

Caution

Holding the steering gear rack bar with anything other than a non-serrated adjustable wrench will cause damage to the steering gear

3. Cover the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear bar (2) with a clean shop towel.
4. Hold the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear bar (2) with a non-serrated adjustable wrench.

Caution

Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution.

5. Using a universal inner tie rod wrench, tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod (1). Fastener Specifications

6. Position a NEW steering gear boot inner clamp (1) on the steering gear boot (2).

8. Steering Gear Boot Clamp (1) » Tighten - use CH-22610 Keystone Clamp Pliers (2)

9. Steering Gear Boot Outer Clamp (1) » Install

10. Install the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (1) until aligned with the previously placed matched mark on the steering linkage inner tie rod.

Caution

Ensure the Outer Tie Rod Boot is not twisted or deformed during assembly. If the boot is twisted or deformed, damage to the boot will occur.

11. If reusing the steering linkage outer tie rod (1), add a small amount of grease on the lip of the rubber boot seal to prevent twisting or deforming of the boot. Do NOT apply grease to the ball joint stud. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

Caution

Fastener Caution.

13. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Nut (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

14. Tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (1) during the front toe adjustment procedure.

15. Underbody Skid Shield (2) » Install

16. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

17. Install the front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

18. Lower the vehicle.

19. Measure and adjust the front toe. Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment
