Headlining Front Trim Panel Replacement (LWB without C3U)

Caution

If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

Caution

Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced. Removal Procedure

1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling

2. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.
3. Pull down the windshield garnish molding (1) rearwards to release the tether from the A pillar.
4. Access the windshield garnish bolt (2) on the backside of the windshield garnish molding (1).

6. Windshield Garnish Molding - Left Side (1) » Remove

7. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.
8. Windshield Pillar Assist Handle Cover (1) » Remove [2x]
9. Windshield Pillar Assist Handle Bolt (2) » Remove [2x]
10. Windshield Garnish Molding - Right Side (3) » Remove

11. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.
12. Radio Front Speaker Grille (1) » Remove

13. Fold the assist handle downward and hold. (2)
14. Use a small flat-bladed tool to open the assist handle covers to access the bolts.
15. Roof Rail Assist Handle Bolt (1) » Remove [4x]
16. Roof Rail Assist Handle (2) » Remove [2x]

17. Sunshade Retainer Bolt Cover (1) » Remove
18. Sunshade Bolt (2) » Remove [3x]
19. Squeeze the tabs at the base of the sunshade (3) to detach it from the roof panel and allow the headliner with the sunshade attached to be lowered.
20. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
21. Release the retainer attaching the sunshade (3) to the headlining trim panel.

23. Sunshade Retainer Bolt Cover (1) » Remove
24. Sunshade Bolt (2) » Remove [3x]
25. Squeeze the tabs at the base of the sunshade (3) to detach it from the roof panel and allow the headliner with the sunshade attached to be lowered.
26. Disconnect the electrical connector.
27. Release the retainer attaching the sunshade (3) to the headlining trim panel.

29. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.
30. Roof Console Opening Trim Plate (1) » Remove
31. Roof Console Bolt (2) » Remove [2x]
32. Roof Console (3) » Remove
33. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

34. Open the sunshade support bolt access covers with an appropriate tool on both sides of vehicle.
35. Sunshade Support Bolt (1) » Remove [2x]
36. Using the appropriate tool, release the metal sunshade support retainers on both sides of vehicle.

38. Insert a suitable flat-bladed plastic trim tool between the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover insert (1) and windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (2).
39. Separate the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover insert (1) from the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (2).

41. Using a suitable plastic trim tool, carefully pry downward on the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (1) to release it from the windshield.
42. Pull downward to remove the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (1) from the windshield.

43. Insert a suitable flat-bladed plastic trim tool between the rear seat position center reading and courtesy lamp (1) and headlining trim panel (2).
44. Separate the rear seat position center reading and courtesy lamp (1) from the headlining trim panel (2).

45. Pull downward to release the retaining tabs.
46. Disconnect the electrical connector.

48. Insert a suitable flat-bladed plastic trim tool between the rear seat position center reading and courtesy lamp (1) and headlining trim panel (2).
49. Separate the rear seat position center reading and courtesy lamp (1) from the headlining trim panel (2).

50. Pull downward to release the retaining tabs.
51. Disconnect the electrical connector.

53. Place the coat hook (2) in the open position.
54. Coat Hook Bolt (1) » Remove [2x]

56. Move both front seats fully forward.
57. Use a flat bladed plastic tool between the center pillar center trim panel (1) and the center pillar upper trim panel to disengage the upper retaining clips (2) on both sides of the vehicle.
58. Pull from both sides of the center pillar center trim panel (1) to release the middle and lower retaining clips (2) on both sides of the vehicle.

Caution

Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.

60. Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Bolt Cap (1) » Remove [2x]
61. Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Bolt (2)» Remove [2x]
62. Pull the center pillar upper trim panel (3) toward the inside of the vehicle to disengage the retaining clips on both sides of the vehicle.

Note

The Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel does not need to be fully removed from the vehicle.

70. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

The Body Lock Pillar Upper Trim Panel does not need to be fully removed from the vehicle.

72. Retaining Clip (1) » Remove [2x]
73. Disengage the retainer (2) at the bottom of the harness.

Note

Prior to removal, note the routing of the wire harness to aid in reassembly and to ensure proper installation.

74. Lower the headlining trim panel (1).
75. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
76. Disengage the retaining clips (2) at the rear of the headliner trim panel.
77. With the aid of an assistant, remove the headlining trim panel (1) from the vehicle through the liftgate opening.

79. Transfer components as necessary.
80. If transferring or replacing the wiring harness. Take note of the wiring harness locations and measure the harness lead length prior to removing. Mark harness routing locations on new headlining trim panel (2) prior to harness removal.

Note

Use a camera to take pictures and use a pencil to mark the new headlining trim panel (2) . Use fiber or plastic trim tool to assist in removing the wiring harness from the headlining trim panel (2) , taking care not to damage the harness. Remove excess glue and material from the wiring harness and re-tape areas where the tape was removed or damaged. Installation Procedure

1. Install the headliner wiring harness, if necessary. Lay the wiring harness on the new headlining trim panel (1) to confirm correct routing and ensure harness leads are proper length for mating connections prior to gluing. Use hot melt adhesive to install the wiring harness. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers Apply insulator tape over glued locations to prevent squeaks and rattles as needed.  2. With the aid of an assistant, position the headlining trim panel (1) into the vehicle through the liftgate opening.

2. Connect the electrical connectors.

3. Engage the retaining clips (2) at the rear underside of the headlining trim panel (1).

5. Engage the retainer (2) at the bottom of the harness.

6. Retaining Clip (1) » Install [2x]

7. Body Lock Pillar Upper Trim Panel (1) » Reposition

Refer to Fastener Caution.

9. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt (2) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

10. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt Cap (1) » Install

11. Body Lock Pillar Upper Trim Panel (1) » Reposition

12. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt (2) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

13. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt Cap (1) » Install

14. Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel (3) » Install [2x]

15. Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Bolt (2)» Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

16. Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Bolt Cap (1) » Install [2x]

17. Align the retaining clips (2) with the upper and lower trim panels on both sides of the vehicle.

18. Center Pillar Center Trim Panel (1) » Install [2x]

19. Coat Hook (2) » Install [2x]

20. Coat Hook Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

21. Connect the electrical connector.

22. Rear Seat Position Center Reading and Courtesy Lamp - Rear (1) » Install

23. Apply pressure upward on the rear seat position center reading and courtesy lamp (1) to engage the retaining tabs.

24. Connect the electrical connector.

25. Rear Seat Position Center Reading and Courtesy Lamp - Front (1) » Install

26. Apply pressure upward on the rear seat position center reading and courtesy lamp (1) to engage the retaining tabs, if equipped.

27. Install the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (1) ensuring the retaining tabs are fully seated.

28. Windshield Multifunction Sensor Mount Bracket Cover Insert (1) » Install

29. Apply pressure upward on the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover insert (1)  to engage the retaining tabs.

30. Sunshade Support (2) » Install [2x]

31. Sunshade Support Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

32. Close the sunshade support bolt access covers.

33. Connect the electrical connectors.

34. Roof Console (3) » Install

35. Roof Console Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

36. Roof Console Opening Trim Plate (1) » Install

37. Connect the electrical connector.

38. Install the retainer that attaches the sunshade to the headliner.

39. Sunshade - Right Side (3) » Install

40. Sunshade Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

41. Sunshade Retainer Bolt Cover (1) » Install

42. Connect the electrical connector.

43. Install the retainer that attaches the sunshade to the headliner.

44. Sunshade - Left Side (3) » Install

45. Sunshade Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

46. Sunshade Retainer Bolt Cover (1) » Install

47. Roof Rail Assist Handle (2) » Install [2x]

48. Roof Rail Assist Handle Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

49. Radio Front Speaker Grille (1) » Install

50. Windshield Garnish Molding - Right Side (3) » Install

51. Windshield Pillar Assist Handle Bolt (2) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

52. Windshield Pillar Assist Handle Cover (1) » Install [2x]

53. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.

54. Windshield Garnish Molding Bolt (2) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

55. Align the retainer clips with the slots in the A pillar and press the windshield garnish molding  (1) into place.

56. Windshield Garnish Molding - Left Side (1) » Install

57. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.

58. Enable the SIR System. SIR Disabling and Enabling
