1. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

2. Unclip and reposition the chassis wiring harness bracket (1) away from the frame shock tower.

3. Front Shock Absorber Nut (1) » Remove [3x]

Caution

When working around ball joints, visually inspect the ball joint boots before and after service work is performed to ensure no damage has occurred. If damage to the boot is observed, the ball joint must be replaced.

Note

Using a jack stand support the lower control arm to prevent over-articulation of the front lower control arm ball joint.

4. Support the front lower control arm with a suitable jack stand.

5. Front Brake Hose Bracket Bolt (1) » Remove

6. { If equipped } Front Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor (1) @ Front Brake Caliper » Remove

7. { If equipped } Front Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor Retainer (2) » Remove
8. { If equipped } Position the front disc brake pad wear sensor wiring harness (1) out of the way.

9. Front Wheel Speed Sensor Bolt (4) » Remove

15. Using the CH-42188–B Ball Joint Separator(1) , separate the left front upper control arm (2) from the steering knuckle.
16. Remove the CH-42188–B Ball Joint Separator(1) from the left front upper control arm (2) and the steering knuckle.

Warning

To prevent personal injury and/or component damage, use the proper tools to support and compress the coil spring prior to removal of the strut shaft nut when removing the coil spring. The coil spring is under extreme pressure and can become a projectile should the spring separate from the strut before all of the tension is relieved.

Warning

Use only the CH-48845 Spring Compressor when servicing suspension components on this vehicle. Other tools may not be strong enough for the springs on this vehicle and you could be injured if you do not use Special Tool CH-48845. Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury.

Note

ONLY use hand tools to perform the following service procedure.

1. Place the front shock absorber (3) into the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1) securing the two lower compressor arms to the front coil spring lower coils.

Note

The CH-48845-10 Strut Spring Compressor Bridge Adapter is used to compress the front coil spring from the top of the front shock absorber mount to provide added stability and aid in compressing the front shock absorber to sufficiently release tension rather than using the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor as a stand alone.

2. Adjust the CH-48845-10 Strut Spring Compressor Bridge Adapter (2) so that the opening of the adapter sufficiently captures the front shock absorber mount.
3. Install and secure the CH-48845-10 Strut Spring Compressor Bridge Adapter (2) to the two upper compressor arms of the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1).
4. Adjusting the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1), remove any clearance between the CH- 48845-10 Strut Spring Compressor Bridge Adapter (2) and the front shock absorber mount ensuring that it is properly positioned as shown.
5. Using the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1), compress the front coil spring enough to remove tension from the front shock absorber mount.

6. Front Suspension Strut Nut (3) » Remove using CH-50732-A Strut Rod Nut Socket (1) and a suitable wrench to hold the shock absorber rod (2).

7. Front Shock Absorber (2) » Remove
8. Front Coil Spring Insulator (1) » Remove

9. Using the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1), release tension on the front coil spring (2).
10. Remove the front coil spring (2) and remaining components from the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1).

11. Front Shock Absorber Mount (1) » Remove

12. Front Suspension Strut Bumper (2) » Remove

13. Front Shock Absorber Boot (3) » Remove

14. Inspect the components and replace as necessary. Assembly Procedure

15. Front Shock Absorber Boot (3) » Install

16. Front Suspension Strut Bumper (2) » Install

17. Front Shock Absorber Mount (1) » Install

18. Install the front coil spring (2) and the associated components to the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1).

19. Using the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1), apply tension on the front coil spring (2).

20. Front Coil Spring Insulator (1) » Install

21. Front Shock Absorber (2) » Install

22. Adjust the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor as necessary so enough of the threaded portion of the front shock absorber rod is exposed.

Refer to Fastener Caution.

9. Using CH-50732-A Strut Rod Nut Socket  (1) and a suitable wrench to hold the shock absorber rod (2)» Install and tighten » Front Suspension Strut Nut (3) — Fastener Specifications

10. Using the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1), release all tension on the front coil spring and the front shock absorber mount.

11. Remove the front shock absorber (3) from the CH-48845 Strut Spring Compressor (1). Installation Procedure

Note

Prior to installing the front shock absorber, you MUST apply anti-corrosion wax to the frame shock tower.

2. Front Shock Absorber (1) » Install

Note

Using a jack stand support the lower control arm to prevent over-articulation of the front lower control arm ball joint.

3. Front Shock Absorber Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

4. Front Stabilizer Shaft Link Nut (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

5. Front Upper Control Arm Ball Stud Nut (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

6. Front Shock Absorber Nut (1) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

7. Reposition and install the chassis wiring harness bracket (1) to the frame shock tower.

8. Front Wheel Speed Sensor Wiring Harness (1) @ Wiring Harness Bracket » Install

9. Front Wheel Speed Sensor Bracket (2) » Install

10. Front Wheel Speed Sensor Bracket Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

11. Front Wheel Speed Sensor (3) » Install

12. Front Wheel Speed Sensor Bolt (4) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

13. { If equipped } Position the front disc brake pad wear sensor wiring harness (1) into place.

14. { If equipped } Front Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor Retainer (2) » Install

15. { If equipped } Front Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor (1) @ Front Brake Caliper » Install

16. Front Brake Hose Bracket Bolt (1) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

17. Remove the jack stand from under the front lower control arm.

18. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
