Engine Oil Life Reset Diagnostic Instructions Perform the Diagnostic System Check prior to using this diagnostic procedure: Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Review the description of Strategy Based Diagnosis: Strategy Based Diagnosis Description The Oil Life Monitor system is used to inform the driver when the next service interval is required. In order to determine when the next oil change is needed the control module K20 monitors the following: Distance Traveled Engine Coolant Temperature Engine Load Engine Oil Temperature Engine Speed Time Since Last Oil Change Warning = 1 Year Vehicle Speed If an oil change is required, the Change Oil Now message or indicator will be activated when the control module K9 receives a serial data message from the control module K20. This procedure resets the control module learned values of the component/system: Oil Life When to Perform the Procedure Perform this procedure when the following component has been serviced:

  1. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode & Engine » Off
  2. Select: Module Diagnostics
  3. Select: [ K20 ] Engine Control Module
  4. Select: Configuration/Reset Functions
  5. Select: Engine Oil Life Reset
  6. Follow the instructions on the scan tool. The procedure will complete within 10 s Verify the scan tool parameter: Engine Oil Life Remaining = 100% ⇒ If not the specified value Repeat the procedure starting at step 1 ⇓ If the specified value
