Rear Suspension Lateral Link Inspection

Special Tools J-8001 Dial Indicator Set Equivalent regional tools: Special Tools

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  2. Clean and inspect the rear suspension upper lateral link ball joint seal for cuts or tears. If the seal is damaged, replace the rear suspension lateral link.

  1. Install the base (3) of the J-8001 Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent, to the rear suspension lateral link (4) at the location shown above.
  2. Install the dial indicator (2) J-8001 Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent, to the rear suspension upper lateral link frame bracket (1) with the contact point at the location shown above.
  3. Grasp the tire at the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock locations. Attempt to induce joint movement by alternately pushing in with one hand and pulling with the other.
  4. Note the reading on the dial indicator. If the dial indicator indicates a total movement reading greater than 0.5 mm (0.02 in), replace the rear suspension lateral link.
  5. Remove the dial indicator J-8001 Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent, from the rear suspension lateral link.
  6. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
