Power Steering Wiring Harness Extension Harness Replacement (Without RC1)

Caution

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage many solid-state electrical components. ESD susceptible components may or may not be labeled with the ESD symbol. Handle all electrical components carefully. Use the following precautions in order to avoid ESD damage: Touch a metal ground point in order to remove your body’s static charge before servicing any electronic component; especially after sliding across the vehicle seat. Do not touch exposed terminals. Terminals may connect to circuits susceptible the ESD damage. Do not allow tools to contact exposed terminals when servicing connectors. Do not remove components from their protective packaging until required to do so. Avoid the following actions unless required by the diagnostic procedure: – Jumpering or grounding of the components or connectors. – Connecting test equipment probes to components or connectors. Connect the ground lead first when using test probes. Ground the protective packaging of any component before opening. Do not rest solid-state components on metal workbenches, or on top of TVs, radios, or other electrical devices.

Caution

During removal and installation, all EPS components including mechanical and/or electrical is extremely susceptible to damage. Dropping or prying on any EPS component may cause internal damage. If damage occurs or a part is dropped, the EPS component must be replaced.

Caution

Care must be taken during removal and installation of the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) components to not hit or break the EPS motor/controller module or module harness connectors. If the EPS motor/ controller module or module connectors are damaged, the complete component must be replaced. Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

3. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Remove [4x]

5. Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Bolt (1) » Remove [10x]
6. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Remove [8x]

7. Pull the front bumper fascia extension (1) rearward and down from the front bumper fascia.

8. Front Bumper Fascia Extension Bolt (2) » Remove [4x]
9. Pull the front bumper fascia extension (4) rearward and down.

10. { If equipped } Front Tire Front Air Deflector Bolt (1) » Remove

13. Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (2) » Remove

15. Reposition the front wheelhouse liner rearward.

16. Disconnect the electrical connectors. (1)
17. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) » Disengage [2x]
18. Engine Wiring Harness Channel Retainer (3) » Remove [2x]
19. Engine Wiring Harness (4) » Reposition

20. Engine Control Module Bolt (1) » Remove [4x]

24. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) » Disengage [2x]
25. Disconnect the electrical connector. (2)

26. Use a suitable tool to release the locking tab and remove the transmission control module (1) by sliding it out from the engine control module bracket (2).

28. Remove the power steering assist motor wire clip (3).
29. Disconnect the power steering harness extension harness (1) from the main chassis harness  (2).

30. Disconnect the power steering harness extension harness (1) from the power steering assist motor.

31. Remove the power steering harness extension harness clip (2) from the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear housing.

32. Remove the power steering harness extension harness. Installation Procedure

33. Install the power steering harness extension harness.

34. Install the power steering harness extension harness clip (2) to the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear housing.

35. Connect the power steering harness extension harness (1) to the power steering assist motor.

36. Connect the power steering harness extension harness (1) to the main chassis harness (2).

37. Install the power steering assist motor wire clip (3).

38. Engine Control Module Bracket (2) » Move into position

39. Connect the electrical connector. (2)

40. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) » Engage [2x]

41. Engine Control Module Bracket (2) » Install

10. Engine Control Module Bracket Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

11. Engine Control Module (2) » Install

12. Engine Control Module Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

13. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @ Engine Control Module Bolt » Engage

14. Engine Wiring Harness (4) » Install

15. Engine Wiring Harness Channel Retainer (3) » Install [2x]

16. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) » Engage [2x]

17. Connect the electrical connectors. (1)

18. Reposition the front wheelhouse liner forward.

19. Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [3x] — Fastener Specifications

20. Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (2) » Install

29. Underbody Skid Shield (2) » Install

30. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] — Fastener Specifications

31. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.

32. Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection

33. Clear DTCs.
