Caution

If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

Caution

Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced. Removal Procedure

1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling
2. Open the sunroof sunshade.

3. Reposition the sunroof opening trim finish lace to gain access to the bolts.

10. Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.
11. Pull down the windshield garnish molding (1) rearwards to release the tether from the A pillar.
12. Access the windshield garnish bolt (2) on the backside of the windshield garnish molding (1).

25. Squeeze the tabs at the base of the sunshade (3) to detach it from the roof panel and allow the headliner with the sunshade attached to be lowered.

36. Insert a suitable flat-bladed plastic trim tool between the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover insert (1) and windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (2).

39. Using a suitable plastic trim tool, carefully pry downward on the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (1) to release it from the windshield.

41. Using a suitable plastic trim tool, release the retaining tabs on the rear seat position center reading and courtesy lamp (1).

46. Use a flat bladed plastic tool between the center pillar center trim panel (1) and the center pillar upper trim panel to disengage the upper retaining clips (2) on both sides of the vehicle.
47. Pull from both sides of the center pillar center trim panel (1) to release the middle and lower retaining clips (2) on both sides of the vehicle.

49. Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Bolt Cap (1) » Remove [2x]

51. Pull the center pillar upper trim panel (3) toward the inside of the vehicle to disengage the retaining clips on both sides of the vehicle.

Note

The Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel does not need to be fully removed from the vehicle.

63. Place all the rear seats in the fully stowed position.
64. Place the front seats in the fully reclined position.
65. Disconnect the electrical connectors at the windshield module.
66. Lower the headlining trim panel.

69. Remove the 2 sunroof housing wiring harness retaining tabs (1).

71. Remove the 13 sunroof module bolts (1), leaving the side 2 centermost sunroof module bolts  (2) installed.

72. With the aid of an assistant, remove the 2 remaining sunroof module bolts (1) and gently lower the sunroof housing (2).
73. With the aid of an assistant, carefully remove the sunroof housing (2) and place on a clean prepared surface.

74. Using a suitable tool, remove the sunroof air deflector springs (1) from the sunroof air deflector (2) and the sunroof channel side guides (3).

Observe the seat of the sunroof air deflector fabric stiffener in the locking guide.

75. Release the retainers at the sunroof air deflector (1).

76. Pivot the sunroof air deflector (1) toward the rear end of the vehicle.

Observe the mounting and location of the sunroof air deflector in the sunroof channel side guides.

78. Starting at one end of the sunroof window seal (1), pull up and away from the frame.

80. Clean the mounting area using a lint-free cloth dampened with a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water.

Note

Observe the mounting and location of the sunroof wiring harness to ensure proper reinstallation.

82. Pull rearward to unlock the sunroof sunshade stiffener (1) from the sunroof sunshade side guides (2) at both side of the sunroof sunshade.
83. Using a rolling motion, remove the sunroof sunshade stiffener (1) from the sunroof sunshade side guides (2) at both side of the sunroof sunshade.

84. Feed the sunshade fabric (1)  rearward from the fabric guide (2).

86. Push the sunroof sunshade (1)  toward the drivers side of the vehicle pull the passenger end of the sunroof sunshade forward to release and remove.
87. Insert a locking pin to hold the spring tension of the sunroof sunshade (1).

3. Sunroof Control Module (2) » Install

4. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps: 4.1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth. 4.2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive. 4.3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air. 4.4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

Sunroof Housing Replacement (Long Wheel Base) — figure 40

Note

A new sunroof sunshade comes with a pre-loaded locking pin to hold the sunshade fabric steady. If the sunroof sunshade becomes unwound a new sunshade is required. DO NOT attempt to rewind sunshade. Ensure sunroof sunshade fabric is properly rolled before installing.

11. Remove the locking pin from the sunroof sunshade.

12. Align the driver side end of the sunroof sunshade (1) with the slot on the sunroof frame and insert the end of the shaft into the slot.

13. Push the sunroof sunshade (1) toward the driver side of the vehicle, maintain pressure while swinging the sunroof sunshade into position aligning the pin with the pivot hole and install the sunroof sunshade.

14. Install the sunshade spacer (1).

Note

If the sunroof sunshade fabric is not fed correctly into the sunshade fabric guide the fabric will droop and not be firm.

15. Feed the sunshade fabric (1)  forward into the fabric guide (2).

16. Using a rolling motion, install the sunroof sunshade stiffener (1) from the sunroof sunshade side guides (2) at both side of the sunroof sunshade.
17. Push forward to lock the sunroof sunshade stiffener (1) into the sunroof sunshade side guides  (2) at both side of the sunroof sunshade.

18. Sunroof Wiring Harness (3) » Install

19. Secure the 5 sunroof wiring harness retaining clips (2).

20. Secure the sunroof wiring harness retaining tab (1).

21. Connect the electrical connectors.

22. Sunroof Window Seal (1) » Install

23. Starting at one end of the sunroof window seal (1), seat the sunroof window seal at all contact points around the frame.

24. Sunroof Air Deflector (1) » Install

25. Pivot the sunroof air deflector (1) toward the front end of the vehicle and hold in place.

26. Secure the retainers at the sunroof air deflector (1).

Note

It will be necessary to hold the sunroof air deflector in place due to spring tension.

27. Install the sunroof air deflector springs (1) to the sunroof channel side guides (3) and the sunroof air deflector (2).

28. With the aid of an assistant, carefully install the sunroof housing (2).

29. With the aid of an assistant, install and hand tighten the side 2 centermost sunroof module bolts (1).

30. Sunroof Module Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [13x] — Fastener Specifications

31. Sunroof Module Bolt (2) » Tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

32. Connect the electrical connectors.

33. Install the 2 sunroof housing wiring harness retaining tabs (1).

34. Connect the sunroof housing rear drain hoses (1) to the rear sunroof housing drain gutters.

35. Connect the sunroof housing front drain hoses (1) to the front sunroof housing drain gutters.

36. Headlining Trim Panel » Install

37. Connect the electrical connectors at the windshield module.

38. Place the front seats in the fully upright position.

39. Place all the rear seats in the fully upright and locked position.

40. Retaining Clip (1) » Install [2x]

41. Reposition the sunroof housing front drain hose.

42. Body Lock Pillar Upper Trim Panel (1) » Reposition

43. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt (2) » Install and tighten — Fastener Specifications

49. Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Bolt (2)» Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

50. Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Bolt Cap (1) » Install [2x]

51. Align the retaining clips (2) with the upper and lower trim panels on both sides of the vehicle.

52. Center Pillar Center Trim Panel (1) » Install [2x]

53. Coat Hook (2) » Install [2x]

54. Coat Hook Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

55. Apply pressure upward on the rear seat position center reading and courtesy lamp (1) to engage the retaining tabs.

56. Install the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (1) ensuring the retaining tabs are fully seated.

58. Apply pressure upward on the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover insert (1)  to engage the retaining tabs.

59. Sunshade Support Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

60. Close the sunshade support bolt access covers.

61. Connect the electrical connectors.

62. Roof Console (3) » Install

85. Sunroof Window Bolt (1) » Install and hand tighten [6x]

86. Ensure the proper sunroof window and roof stationary window height and opening fit. Sunroof Window Height and Opening Fit Adjustment

87. Perform the necessary initialization procedure. Sunroof/Sunshade Motor Initialization
