Overlap/Backing Plate Sectioning Overlap Procedure

- Measure, mark and cut the service part (1) to overlap the original panel by approximately 25 mm (1 in).

- Drill 8 mm (5/16) plug weld holes (1) spaced 40 mm (1½ in.) apart at the sectioning location.
- Prepare all mating surfaces for welding as necessary.
- Apply Weld-Thru Coating or equivalent to all mating surfaces. Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair
- Position service part to vehicle using 3-dimensional measuring equipment and clamp into place.

- Install MIG/MAG stich weld (1) on sectioning location.
- Install MIG/MAG plug welds (2) on sectioning location.
- Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area as necessary. Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair.
- Paint the repaired area. Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems. Backing Plate Procedure

- Fabricate a 50 mm (2 in) backing plate (1) to fit behind the service part and the original panel.

- Drill 8 mm (5/16) plug weld holes (1) spaced 40 mm (1½ in.) apart at the sectioning location.
- Prepare all mating surfaces for welding as necessary.
- Apply Weld-Thru Coating or equivalent to all mating surfaces. Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair
- Position service part and backing plate to vehicle using 3-dimensional measuring equipment and clamp into place.

- Install MIG/MAG stich weld (1) on sectioning location.
- Install MIG/MAG welds (2) on sectioning location.
- Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area as necessary. Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair.
- Paint the repaired area. Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems.
