Liftgate Strut Bracket Replacement

Warning

When a lift gate hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

Caution

Apply pressure only at the end of the liftgate/hood assist rod that you are removing or attaching. Do NOT apply pressure to the middle of the rod because damage or bending will result. Removal Procedure

1. Remove the top metal clip (1) at the ends of the liftgate strut (2).
2. Liftgate Strut (2) » Reposition

Note

Mark the location of the liftgate bracket to ensure proper alignment during installation.

3. Liftgate Strut Bracket Bolt (1) » Remove [2x]

4. Liftgate Strut Bracket (2) » Remove Installation Procedure

5. Liftgate Strut Bracket (2) » Install

Caution

Refer to Fastener Caution.

2. Liftgate Strut Bracket Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [2x] — Fastener Specifications

Note

Ensure the clip is fully seated when the rod is reinstalled. If the clip cannot be fully seated, a new rod should be installed.

3. Liftgate Strut (2) » Install
4. Install the metal clip (1)  to the top end of the liftgate strut (2).
5. Check alignment of the liftgate and adjust if necessary. Liftgate Adjustment
