Circuit/System Description The K9 Body Control Module (BCM) controls the KR73 Ignition Main Relay by applying voltage to the relay coil control circuit 5199 and is grounded by ground circuit 1050. The ignition circuit is energized when the ignition switch is in the Run or Crank Modes. The K9 Body Control Module (BCM) controls the KR76 Accessory Time Delay Cutoff Relay by applying voltage to the control circuit 4083 and is grounded by ground circuit 1050. The Relay B+ circuit Terminal 30 by circuit  342, when the relay contact is switched closed by control circuit 4083 the relay control terminal 87 supplies B+ voltage to dedicated fuses and circuit breakers. The control circuit 4083 stays energized for up to 10 min provided the driver door is not open. Diagnostic Fault Information

Diagnostic Aids A short to voltage on the ignition main relay coil control will cause the engine to remain running after the mode is changed to OFF. The last 2 digits of the circuit number are significant in identifying its power and ground functions. – Circuits ending in 42 are primary fused B+ circuits (generally the first fuse in the circuit after the battery) – Circuits ending in 40 are secondary fused circuits (generally fuses in a fuse block after the primary circuit) – Circuits ending in 39 and 41 are ignition voltage circuits. – Circuits ending in 50 are grounds. – Circuits ending in 51 are low reference (ground) circuits.   1. Ignition ON.
  2. Verify that the appropriate devices controlled by the KR76 Accessory Time Delay Cutoff Relay turn ON and OFF when cycling the ignition between ON and OFF. ⇒ If the devices do not turn ON and OFF Refer to Circuit/System Testing – KR76 Accessory Time Delay Cutoff Relay ⇓ If the devices turn ON and OFF
  3. Verify that the appropriate devices controlled by the KR73 Ignition Main Relay turn ON and OFF when cycling the ignition between ON and OFF. ⇒ If the devices do not turn ON and OFF Refer to Circuit/System Testing – KR73 Ignition Main Relay ⇓ If the devices turn ON and OFF

  5. Ignition and all accessories Off.
  6. Remove the KR76 Accessory Time Delay Cutoff Relay.
  7. Verify a test lamp illuminates between relay ground terminal 85 and B+. ⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate 3.1. Test for open/high resistance in ground circuit 1050. ⇒ If open/high resistance is found, repair the circuit or ground connection. ⇓ If open/high resistance is not found 3.2. Replace the X51A Fuse Block - Instrument Panel. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates
  8. Cycle the ignition ON,
  9. Verify a test lamp turns illuminates between the Relay control circuit terminal 86 and ground. ⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate 5.1. Ignition OFF. 5.2. Disconnect the X4 connector at the K9 Body Control Module. 5.3. Test for a short to ground in control circuit 4083. ⇒ If a short is found, repair the circuit. ⇓ if a short to ground is not found 5.4. Test for open/high resistance in control circuit 4083. ⇒ If open/high resistance is found, repair the circuit. ⇓ If open/high resistance is not found. 5.5. Replace the K9 Body Control Module. ⇓ If the test lamp turns On
  10. Open the drivers door latch.
  11. Verify a test lamp turns On and Off between the relay control circuit terminal 86 and ground while cycling the ignition between ON and OFF. ⇒ If the test lamp is always On 7.1. Turn the Ignition OFF. 7.2. Disconnect the X4 connector at the K9 Body Control Module. 7.3. Turn the Ignition ON. 7.4. Test for a short to voltage in control circuit 4083. ⇒ If a short to voltage is found, Repair the circuit. ⇓ If a short to voltage is not found. 7.5. Replace the K9 Body Control Module. ⇓ If the test lamp turns On and Off
  12. Test or replace the KR76 Accessory Time Delay Cutoff Relay. KR73 Ignition Main Relay
  13. Ignition and all accessories OFF.
  14. Remove the KR73 Ignition Main Relay.
  15. Verify a test lamp illuminates between ground circuit terminal 86 and B+. ⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate Repair the open/high resistance on circuit 250 or the ground connection. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates
  16. Ignition ON.
  17. Verify a test lamp turns on between the control circuit terminal 85 and Ground. ⇒ if the test lamp does not illuminate 5.1. Ignition Off. 5.2. Test the relay control circuit 5199 for a short to ground. ⇒ If a short to ground is found repair the short to ground. ⇓ if a short to ground is not found 5.1. Test the relay control circuit 5199 for an open/high resistance concern. ⇒ if an open/high resistance is found repair the circuit. ⇓ if an open/high resistance is not found 5.2. Replace the K9 Body Control Module. ⇓ If the test lamp illuminates.
  18. Open the drivers door latch.
  19. Cycle the Ignition On and Off.
  20. Verify a test lamp turns On and Off the control circuit terminal 85 and Ground. ⇒ If the test lamp is always On 8.1. Turn the Ignition Off. 8.2. Test control circuit 5199 for a short to voltage. ⇒ If a short to voltage is found repair the circuit. ⇓ if a short to voltage is not found 8.3. Replace the BCM. ⇓ If the test lamp turns On and Off
  21. Test or replace the KR73 Ignition Main relay. Component Testing Relay Test
  22. Ignition OFF, disconnect the appropriate relay.
  23. Test for 70–150 Ω between terminals (85 or 1) and (86 or 2). ⇒ If less than 70 or greater than 150 Ω Replace the relay. ⇓ If between 70–150 Ω
  24. Test for infinite resistance between the terminals listed below: (30 or 3) and (86 or 2) (30 or 3) and (87 or 5) (30 or 3) and (85 or 1) (85 or 1) and (87 or 5) (86 or 2) and (87 or 5) ⇒ If less than infinite resistance Replace the relay. ⇓ If infinite resistance
  25. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between relay terminal (85 or 1) and 12 V. Install a jumper wire between relay terminal (86 or 2) and ground.
  26. Test for less than 5.0 Ω between terminals (30 or 3) and (87 or 5). ⇒ If 5.0 Ω or greater Replace the relay. ⇓ If less than 5.0 Ω
