Circuit/System Description The K32 Heated Steering Wheel Module controls the heated steering wheel and the heated steering wheel indicator based on an input from the heated steering wheel switch. When the heated steering wheel switch is pressed, the signal circuit 5883 is pulled to ground. This indicates to the K32 Heated Steering Wheel Module that steering wheel heat is requested. When the request is seen, the K32 Heated Steering Wheel Module supplies voltage to the indicator lamp and supplies voltage to the heating elements, which are internal to the steering wheel. Conditions for Running the DTC The system voltage is between 9–16 V. Vehicle power mode is RUN for 5 seconds. Conditions for Setting the DTC The K32 Heated Steering Wheel Module detects a signal from the heated steering wheel switch for greater than 5s. Action Taken When the DTC Sets The heated steering wheel is constantly ON. Conditions for Clearing DTC The conditions for setting the DTC no longer exist. 1. Ignition ON.
2. Verify that DTC B1A4C or DTC U052A are not set. ⇒ If the DTC is set Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle ⇓ If the DTC is not set

Note

The steering wheel heater will not operate when the steering wheel temperature is above 32°C (89.6°F)

3. Verify the scan tool Heated Steering Wheel Switch parameter changes between Active and Inactive when cycling the heater steering wheel switch. ⇒ If the parameter does not change Refer to Circuit/System Testing ⇓ If the parameter changes
4. A fault is currently not present and may be an intermittent condition. Circuit/System Testing
5. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the K32 Heated Steering Wheel Module and the harness connector at the S70L Cruise Control Switch.
6. Test for infinite resistance between signal circuit terminal 1 at the X1 harness connector and ground. ⇒ If less than infinite resistance Repair the short to ground on circuit 5883. ⇓ If infinite resistance
7. Test for infinite resistance between terminal 8 and terminal 6 at the S70L Cruise Control Switch with the steering wheel heater switch released ⇒ If less than infinite resistance Replace the S70L Cruise Control Switch. ⇓ If infinite resistance
8. Test for less than 40 Ω between terminal 8 and terminal 6 at the S70L Cruise Control Switch with the steering wheel heater switch pressed. ⇒ If 40 Ω or greater Replace the S70L Cruise Control Switch ⇓ If less than 40 Ω
