Torque Converter Replacement (L84, L87 with 2WD)

1. Transmission » Remove — Automatic Transmission Removal and Installation

Torque Converter Replacement (L84, L87 with 2WD) — figure 1

2. Attach and secure DT-48989 Holding Fixture  (1) to the automatic transmission case (2).
3. Support the transmission with an overhead hoist attached to DT-48989 Holding Fixture  (1).
4. Install DT-48989 Holding Fixture  (1) with the automatic transmission case (2) into the DT- 03289-20 Holding Fixture Base Assembly  (3).
5. Rotate the transmission so that the converter housing is up and secure with locking pin.
6. Install the DT-46409 Torque Converter Lifting Handles  (4) into the torque converter (5).
7. Remove the DT-21366 Converter Holding Strap installed during transmission removal.

Torque Converter Replacement (L84, L87 with 2WD) — figure 2

1. Install the DT-46409 Torque Converter Lifting Handles  (1) into to the torque converter (2).
2. Torque Converter (2) Install

Warning

The torque converter must be held to the torque converter housing by a retaining device such as shipping brackets. Without the retaining device, the torque converter may slide forward, disengaging the oil pump, or may fall completely out of the transmission causing personal injury and/or property damage.

Note

If the converter holding strap does not fit, ensure that the converter is fully installed.

3. Install the DT-21366 Converter Holding Strap  (4).
4. Rotate the transmission so the pan is facing down then secure the transmission with the DT- 03289-20 Holding Fixture Base Assembly  (6) locking pin.
5. Support the transmission with a overhead hoist attached to DT-48989 Holding Fixture  (5), then remove the DT-03289-20 Holding Fixture Base Assembly  (6) locking pin.
6. Remove the DT-48989 Holding Fixture  (5) and the automatic transmission case (3) from the DT-03289-20 Holding Fixture Base Assembly  (6).
7. Secure the automatic transmission to a suitable transmission jack then remove the DT-48989 Holding Fixture  (5) from the transmission.
