| Q17 Fuel Injector |
Fuel injectors are solenoid valves that inject fuel either into the intake system or directly into the cylinder. The amount of fuel injected depends on the length of the electrical pulse that is applied. |
The engine control module calculates the injected fuel quantity in two different ways:
Fuel quantity based on the time the injector was turned on.
Fuel quantity based on the increase in crankshaft speed when a specific cylinder fires.
Conditions for Running the DTC

– B26 Crankshaft Position Sensor
– B34 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
– R29 Fuel Filter
– Q14A Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve 1
– Q14B Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve 2
– Q18A Fuel Pressure Regulator 1
– Q18B Fuel Pressure Regulator 2
– Q18C Fuel Pressure Regulator 3
– Q22 Intake Manifold Tuning Solenoid Valve
– Q38 Throttle Body
Accelerator Pedal Position = Less than 0.05%
Deceleration Fuel Cut-Off = Active
Engine = Running
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor = 68 to 126°C (154 to 259°F)
Fuel Temperature Sensor = 5 to 80°C (41 to 176°F)
Transmission = Gear 4, 5, 6
Vehicle Speed Sensor = Greater than 0 km/h (0 MPH)
Frequency the DTC runs = Continuously — After the running conditions are met
Conditions for Setting the DTC
Fuel Injector Small Quantity Adjustment = Not within a calibrated range
Actions Taken When the DTC Sets
DTCs listed in the DTC Descriptor category = Type B DTC
Conditions for Clearing the DTC

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode
- Verify there are no DTCs set related to the following component/system: Fuel System
⇒ If a related DTC is set
Refer to: Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle
⇓ If a related DTC is not set
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the
vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
- Verify the DTC does not set.
⇒ If the DTC sets

⇓ If the DTC is not set
- All OK.

- Disconnect the electrical connector: X160 Inline Harness Connector
- Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode
- Test for 16 V (±3 V) between the test points:

{ Q17B Fuel Injector 2 } Control circuit terminal 3 & Ground
{ Q17C Fuel Injector 3 } Control circuit terminal 5 & Ground

⇒ If no condition exists » Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
⇓ If less than 3 Ω

⇒ If the tool is not available
7.1. Perform the following procedure/test: Engine Compression Test
Verify the procedure/test passes.
⇒ If the procedure/test does not pass Refer to: Symptoms - Engine Mechanical
⇓ If the procedure/test passes
7.2. Test or replace the component: Q17 Fuel Injector
⇓ If the tool is available
- Perform the following procedure/test: Relative Engine Compression Test
Verify the procedure/test passes.
⇒ If the procedure/test does not pass
Refer to: Symptoms - Engine Mechanical
⇓ If the procedure/test passes
- Test or replace the component: Q17 Fuel Injector
Component Testing
- Ignition/Vehicle » Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: Q17 Fuel Injector
- Test for 0.2 to 1.5 Ω between the test points: Component terminal 1 & Component terminal 2
⇒ If not between 0.2 and 1.5 Ω
Replace the component: Q17 Fuel Injector
⇓ If between 0.2 and 1.5 Ω
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Each terminal of the component & The
component’s housing
⇒ If less than infinite resistance
Replace the component: Q17 Fuel Injector
⇓ If infinite resistance
- All OK.
